The Vilnius-based MRO provider’s chief operating officer of eight years took the top job as his predecessor moved up to lead parent group Avia Solutions.

FL Technics, a global aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul provider headquartered in Vilnius, Lithuania, appointed Saulius Bajarūnas as chief executive officer effective 1 September 2026. He succeeds Žilvinas Lapinskas, who moved up in July to become CEO of parent company Avia Solutions Group.

Bajarūnas had served as FL Technics’ chief operating officer for eight years before his promotion, giving him direct oversight of the company’s line and base maintenance operations across its facilities in Lithuania, the United Kingdom and Indonesia. The company said his new responsibilities include the firm’s global operations and strategic growth.

Internal promotion inside a fast-growing MRO group

FL Technics is part of Avia Solutions Group, a Lithuanian-founded aviation holding company that has expanded rapidly through acquisitions, including the recent purchase of Czech MRO firm JOB AIR Technic. Promoting a long-serving operations chief rather than recruiting externally reflects a pattern common in the aircraft maintenance sector, where safety-critical operational knowledge takes years to build.

A tightening market for aircraft maintenance

Airlines worldwide have faced a persistent shortage of maintenance capacity as ageing fleets and delayed new-aircraft deliveries from Boeing and Airbus keep older jets flying longer than planned. That backdrop has fuelled steady growth for independent MRO providers like FL Technics, which competes for line and base maintenance contracts across Europe, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific.

Why It Matters

FL Technics’ Vilnius base maintenance facility has become one of the busier independent MRO hubs in Europe, giving Bajarūnas direct oversight of capacity that airlines increasingly compete to book months in advance. Aircraft maintenance directly underpins flight safety and airline reliability, and leadership continuity at a major MRO provider matters to the airlines that depend on it. Bajarūnas’s promotion from within signals FL Technics’ intent to keep expanding its existing operational playbook rather than reset strategy under new outside leadership.
