Qatar welcomed 2.614 million visitors through its land, air and sea entry points in the first nine months of 2026, according to a statement from Qatar Tourism reported by the Qatar News Agency (QNA) and published in the Qatar Tribune on 7 October 2026.

September figures

In the statement, issued on Tuesday 6 October, Qatar Tourism said the number of visitors to Qatar rose 1.1 per cent year on year in September to 276,000, compared with 273,000 in the same month last year. The statement said visitor sources varied between January and September 2026.

Where visitors came from

According to the report, countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) ranked first, accounting for 40.9 per cent of total visitors, or 1.069 million. Asia and Oceania ranked second, accounting for 21 per cent, with 548,000 visitors. The reported figures cover entries by land, air and sea.

The sources reviewed did not give a breakdown for other regions, a comparison of the nine-month total with the same period of 2025, or hotel occupancy figures, so this article does not draw conclusions on those points.

Why It Matters

Visitor statistics are one of the few regular indicators of how a destination’s hospitality sector is performing. The slight rise in September, together with the weight of neighbouring Gulf markets in the nine-month total, suggests that regional travel continues to underpin demand for Qatar’s hotels and attractions. Later releases covering more months, and any year-on-year comparison for the full period, will show whether that growth is sustained.
