Hyatt Hotels Corporation announced on 20 October that QURO Bangkok Riverside has held its grand opening. The company said the 62-key hotel is the first Unscripted by Hyatt property in Thailand and was formerly known as The StandardX, Bangkok Phra Arthit.
Location and Rooms
According to Hyatt, the hotel sits on the Chao Phraya River on Phra Arthit Road in Bangkok’s Bang Lamphu neighbourhood, next to Phra Arthit Pier. The company listed Khao San Road, the National Museum, the Grand Palace, Wat Pho and Wat Arun among nearby landmarks. Rooms have private balconies, and some offer riverfront or neighbourhood views.
Art, Food and Drink
Hyatt said the hotel’s name comes from the word “curate”, and described art as a catalyst for connection. The lobby includes two spaces, QURO GALLERY and QURO SOURCED, for changing art and selected pieces, along with BEANS Coffee Roaster. QURO Point of View is a rooftop bar, and the hotel also has a rooftop pool. Silpa Riverside Restaurant serves Thai food.
Sunshine Jeamjirarut, the hotel’s general manager, said in the release that the property combines art, local experiences and an unhurried approach to service. Hyatt said the hotel is a World of Hyatt participating property and is offering a New Hotel Member Bonus Offer, under which members earn double points on the room rate and eligible incidentals.
The release also noted that Hyatt has 16 hotels in Thailand. It did not give an opening investment figure, an owner or an operating partner.
Why It Matters
This opening brings the Unscripted by Hyatt brand to Thailand, and it does so through a hotel that already existed under another name rather than a new building. The location puts the hotel close to several of Bangkok’s best-known sights, and the emphasis on art and local experiences is how Hyatt has chosen to present it. Hyatt’s release gives the hotel’s own account of what it offers; how it is received by guests and how it performs will only be visible over time.
