Three decades in banking, and now a leading voice for women in Sri Lanka’s business community. How would you describe that journey?
My leadership journey has been one of continuous learning, resilience, and purpose. Beginning my career with a passion for creating meaningful impact, I embraced every opportunity to grow, take on new responsibilities, and inspire those around me. Over the years, I have learned that true leadership is not defined by a title but by the ability to empower others, build trust, and lead with integrity. Navigating challenges has strengthened my decision-making, adaptability, and commitment to innovation. I have been privileged to mentor emerging professionals, lead diverse teams, and contribute to initiatives that drive organizational and community development. Every experience has shaped my perspective, reminding me that effective leaders continue to learn, listen, and evolve. Today, I remain committed to fostering inclusive environments, encouraging excellence, and creating opportunities for others to thrive, believing that the greatest measure of leadership is the positive and lasting impact it leaves on people and society.
What impact are you proudest of?
As a leader, I have sought to create meaningful impact by leading with purpose, integrity, and empathy. I believe that leadership is about empowering others to succeed while fostering a culture of trust. Throughout my career, I have championed initiatives that promote innovation, strengthen organizational performance, and create opportunities for growth for women and young professionals. By mentoring emerging leaders and encouraging diverse perspectives, I have helped build confident, high-performing teams capable of driving positive change. Beyond the workplace, I actively support community development through volunteerism and thought leadership. I take pride in creating environments where people feel valued, motivated, and inspired to reach their full potential. My greatest impact lies not only in achieving business objectives but also in helping others grow into leaders who can make a difference. I remain committed to creating lasting value for organizations, communities, and next generations through responsible and inclusive leadership.
What’s the achievement that stands out most?
One of my biggest achievements as a leader has been building a high-performing and inclusive team that consistently delivers meaningful results while fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and mutual respect. By introducing strategic initiatives, strengthening stakeholder relationships, and encouraging continuous learning, I helped improve organizational performance and create new opportunities for sustainable growth. Equally important has been my commitment to mentoring and empowering women and young professionals, enabling many to develop their careers. Watching team members grow into capable leaders has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my journey. This achievement extends beyond measurable business success; it reflects the positive culture we have built together, where people feel valued, supported, and inspired to excel. It has reinforced my belief that true leadership is about creating opportunities, empowering others to reach their potential, and leaving a lasting legacy of positive impact for the organization and the wider community.
What makes your leadership approach distinct?
My ability to combine empathy with strategic thinking, ensuring that people and performance grow together. I believe that lasting success is achieved by creating an environment where individuals feel respected, empowered, and motivated to contribute their best. I lead with integrity, transparency, and accountability, building trust among colleagues, stakeholders, and the wider community. Rather than simply managing outcomes, I focus on developing people, encouraging innovation, and nurturing future leaders who can drive success. I embrace challenges as opportunities to improve, adapt, and inspire positive change, while remaining committed to ethical decision-making and inclusive leadership. My approach is centered on collaboration, recognizing that diverse perspectives lead to stronger solutions and better results. The impact of my leadership is reflected not only in organizational achievements but also in the confidence, growth, and success of those I have mentored and supported, creating a legacy that extends well beyond my own accomplishments.
What advice would you give the next generation of women leaders?
Believe in your abilities and never underestimate the value of your unique perspective. Leadership is not about being perfect; it is about having the courage to make decisions, learn from challenges, and continue moving forward with confidence and integrity. Invest in continuous learning, seek mentors who inspire you, and build strong networks that support your personal and professional growth. Take up new responsibilities or step outside your comfort zone, as these experiences often become the greatest opportunities for growth. Lead with empathy, authenticity, and resilience, remembering that the way you treat people will define your legacy as much as your achievements. Lift others as you climb the ladder and create opportunities for the next generation of women leaders. Above all, stay true to your values, embrace change with confidence, be authentic and remember that you are unique and you have the power to create a lasting impact in society.
