Cindy Hook, the inaugural chief executive of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games Organising Committee, will not renew her four-year contract, which is set to expire in December, according to InDaily.
The decision lands early in the road to the Games. Hook said in a statement on Tuesday 13 October that she was proud of what the committee had built, and InDaily noted that the move comes despite her previously indicating she would lead the committee through to 2032.
Her Account of the Job
In the statement quoted by InDaily, Hook listed what she regards as her achievements: building the organisation from the ground up, setting the Games vision and plan, designing and executing a clear strategy, creating the brand narrative, launching the Games emblems and driving early market momentum and commercial wins. She framed the departure as a matter of timing. “The foundations for success have been well laid,” she said, adding that it was the right time to hand over to a new CEO for the next phase.
Hook is a former Deloitte boss, the report noted.
Tributes and a Search
In a separate statement, Australian Olympic Committee president Ian Chesterman described Hook’s contribution during her four years as inaugural CEO as outstanding, saying she had played a pivotal role in establishing the Organising Committee and building its capabilities and international reputation. InDaily reported that her departure will trigger a search for a replacement.
The report does not name a successor, set out a timetable for the search or say whether Hook will leave on the day her contract expires. Those details have not yet been reported in the source reviewed.
Why It Matters
Organising committees are built from nothing and then handed to the people who must deliver the event, and the point at which that handover happens shapes how the final years run. Hook’s own framing is that the foundations have been laid and a new leader is needed for the next phase. The appointment of her successor, and the timetable the committee sets for it, will show how the committee intends to manage that transition.
